We've all been there. Your car is stuck in snow or ice. And of course, you are running late to work, school, or to pick up an angry significant other. Seems like it always happens at the worse time.

Don't panic. Follow these simple steps and we will get you on your way in no time.

-Start slowly. Don't slam on the gas. You are not trying to win a drag race. You don't want to spin your wheels and dig yourself in even deeper. A lot of times, putting the car in drive alone would get you moving. If simply putting the gear in drive doesn't work, try starting in second gear. Keep your wheels straight as it offers the least amount of resistance.

-Elbow grease. If you are in some deep snow, you have to get out of your car and start digging. What? You don't have a shovel? Come on now, this is not amateur hour, a good compact folding shovel should be in your trunk at all times. It's small and affordable, and will help get you out of many jams. Now, get as much snow and ice out of the front and back of the wheels, and spread some rock salt, sand or even kitty litter in front and back of the wheels(depends on whether your cars is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive). If you live in a region with a lot of snow fall, a pair of traction mats would be a good investment.

-Like I mentioned earlier, you want to point your front wheels straight to lessen the resistance, be gentle on the gas.

-If you don't have a shovel and rock salt, there is one more thing you can try. Rock the car...and no, this doesn't involve the back seat. Put the car in reverse, and then put it in drive. Kind of like on a swing set, you kick your legs out and pull them back to get things moving, the same theory applies here. You are trying to use the momentum of the back and forth action to get your car moving.

-Supplies. You should have the following items in your car at all times...especially if you live in the colder areas. Foldable shovel, rock salt, windshield wiper fluid, snow/ice scraper, gloves.
