The Right Aluminum Loading Ramp For Your ATV Or Motorcycle - Here's How To Choose It

!±8± The Right Aluminum Loading Ramp For Your ATV Or Motorcycle - Here's How To Choose It

Whether you have an ATV, dirt bike, or street bike, chances are that you have had to transport it from your home to another location at some point. And if you do that by loading it into the back of your pickup or onto a trailer, then you've used a ramp. An aluminum loading ramp can do the job safely and easily, even if you're loading solo.

Aluminum loading ramps are the ramp of choice by most sportsmen. That's because they are lightweight, solid and easy to maneuver. But there is a lot more to these ramps.

You probably have thousands invested in your bike or four-wheeler, not to mention your truck. And if you hunt or ride motocross for instance, you are certainly very conscious of properly maintaining your equipment and using it safely.

Loading and unloading from your truck or trailer is where safety begins. For starters you need a ramp that is capable of holding enough weight. You need to consider the weight of the quad or bike, any accessories that are attached, as well as the weight of the person who will be doing the loading. When you add all that up, you can see why a couple of 2x4's is just not going to be a good option.

Once you have the weight capacity figured out you can choose from many different types of ramps. Choosing a folding ramp makes for easy and secure storage. When you are transporting, you can easily find a spot for a folding ramp beside your recreational vehicle without leaving the tailgate down, so the ramp fits.

When you arrive at the trail head or track, you probably lock up your vehicle while you ride. Aluminum ramps that fold can be locked inside your vehicle so they are still there when you get back.

An arched aluminum loading ramp is a good overall choice. With this type of ramp, you avoid bottoming out when loading. It works great for ATVs or even riding lawn mowers. These are also available as a folding ramp so storage is still easy.

The best ATV loading ramps are bi-fold or tri-fold ramps. They should be wide enough for your four-wheeler to fit comfortably with room for you to walk beside it if necessary. Use a ramp with an extender to make the slope less steep if needed.

Motorcycle loading ramps are often a single ramp. If you are using a bi-fold or tri-fold aluminum loading ramp be sure the ramp can handle the load safely. This is especially a factor if you are loading a heavier street bike.

Ramps with a non skid surface are an important option especially if you are loading or unloading in poor weather conditions. The last thing you want is for your bike or ATV to slide off the ramp because the ramp surface is slippery. A textured surface or rubberized coating is a good choice.

Be sure to get loading ramps that come with safety straps and/or an attaching lip.

The straps allow you to secure the ramp to your tailgate so the ramp doesn't move while you are loading or unloading. They can also be used to secure the ramps in the bed of your pickup while you are in transit, to avoid damaging your load or your pickup.

Another nice feature is an attaching lip. This is designed to fit snugly against the tailgate to keep the ramp in place. It has a rubber pad so there is no damage to your tailgate. You'll really like this feature if you are trying to load or unload without help.

Choosing the right aluminum loading ramp, for your ATV or motorcycle, makes for safe and worry-free loading and unloading.

How to Build Your Own Car Kit

!±8± How to Build Your Own Car Kit

There are a lot of assembled car kits on the market. You will find one in any Wal-Mart, Target, or auto supply store, but this is a kit that you can assemble for yourself. Costs will vary because of the price of each item. Here are a few things to consider for your kit:

Car jack - look yours over, is it sturdy enough to safely do the job it's needed for?

Fuses - pick up a box of assorted fuses with varied amps.

Bungee cords - three or four about of various lengths.

Roadside flares - every car owner needs these, a few triangles that are very visible.

Paper towels, A first aid kit, clear painter's tarp, a few thermal blankets.

Mosquito spray, sealed snacks (protein bars, crackers/peanut butter, tuna packs.

Tire puncture kit for emergency flats, a portable air compressor, tire gauge.

Bottled water, a book, put a little money (bills and coins) inside a plastic bag, put a few match books in too.

Flashlight with spare batteries,

Jumper cables - to use on your car or help out a stranded motorist.

Tools - pliers, screwdriver set, small socket set.

Small shovel, campers have folding shovels, cat litter for traction, tire chains (know how to put them on if you ever need to).

Spare tire! Do you have one?

Of course, you can over do anything - but there is nothing worse than getting into a situation that calls for just the basics, and most of us don't even have them. Most of us don't have a spare key hidden on the outside of our car.

One item that makes a whole lot of sense and most of us just blow it off, is a portable battery charger - if it's late at night and the car won't start, you would have to stop a stranger and that's usually a real bad decision - if you have your own charger, you don't anybody's help.

And the most important thing would be your cell phone AND a written list of emergency numbers and family or close friend numbers. How many times has your cell phone died, you have to call someone for help or information, but the numbers are in the dead phone. That's probably the most helpless feeling in the world. Because we depend on our cells, we just don't remember phone numbers like we used to.

Is a Tonneau Cover any Good? Duh

!±8± Is a Tonneau Cover any Good? Duh

A tonneau cover is about the best aftermarket auto accessory you can invest in for your pickup truck. The advantages of owning a truck bed cover heavily out-weigh the amount of money you are going to pay for one.

The advantages of owning a tonneau cover can be such as the great added look you will give your vehicle by adding one to your truck bed. There are so many different types of tonneau covers out there you should have no problem picking out a look that is right for you. You can get a sleek looking low profile tonneau or one that stands up a little. There are soft covers, fiberglass tonneau covers, aluminum, roll-up, retractable, electric, folding, hinged and more.

Having a tonneau cover on the back of your truck will protect your cargo from weather conditions such as snow or rain. There is no need of having everything in your cargo area soaking wet. Who wants to shovel snow out their truck box before using it? Just being able to keep the debris out is a bonus with pollen or leaves in the fall. It just a real clean sleek look having a tonneau cover.

Whenever you haul delicate cargo such as flowers or plants or even paper products a truck bed cover will protect them from winds such as created from higher speed highway driving.

Without a tonneau cover you don't feel safe leaving your vehicle with cargo in it, even for a few moments. There are a lot of people out there who like to take things that don't belong to them but when they can't see what your truck box contains they don't even think about it. For added protection there are quite a few tonneau covers that are lockable today.

Having a tonneau cover on your truck bed in the closed position will create less wind resistance by allowing the wind to pass over your vehicle instead of hitting the tailgate causing drag. Less drag spells less fuel consumption and there is no need for me to mention the advantages of saving fuel to you.

Investing in a tonneau cover is just the logical thing to do when you're the owner of a pickup truck. For those of you who have not decided if a tonneau cover is any good. Well Duh. Have a happy tonneau cover shopping experience, you'll be glad you did.
